Dorset Council holds the Licence to deliver DofE Programmes in Dorset as listed. It is responsible for the administration and authorisation of Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards in the DofE Dorset Council area.
Dorset has held a DofE licence for many years. Jean Coulter and Mary Shaw were the first women in the Shire to receive the Gold Award in 1965.
DofE programmes are delivered under licence by over 400 Licensed Organisations throughout the UK (e.g. local authorities, uniformed organisations, charities, YOIs, businesses).
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is recognition of a young person’s successful journey of self-discovery and development, acknowledged by employers and universities alike for the qualities of young people have who have achieved a DofE Award.
Its balanced programme develops the whole person – mind, body and soul, in an environment of social interaction and team working. In the United Kingdom the programme is run by The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a royal charter corporation. A separate entity, the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, promotes the award abroad and acts as a coordinating body for award sponsors in other nations, which are organised into 62 National Award Authorities and a number of Independent Operators.
